XIV HIMALAYAN ENVIRONMENT & ADVENTURE TREK
Kareri Lake is a high altitude, shallow, fresh water lake south of the Dhauladhar range approximately 9 km North West of Dharamshala in Kangra district, Himachal Pradesh. Its altitude is 3200 meters above the sea level. Kareri Lake is best known for being a trekking destination in the Dhauladhar. Snow melting from the Dhauladhar range serves as the source of the lake and a stream, Nyiund is the outflow. Since the source is fresh melting snow and the lake is shallow, water visibility is very high and in most places, the lake bed can be seen. Located at a distance of 33 km from Dharamshala and at an altitude of 1,983 meters above the sea level, Kareri village is set amidst beautiful settings.13 km from here lies the impressive Kareri lake 3,200 meters above the sea level amidst green meadows, oak and pine trees making it an idyllic spot to visit. Kareri Lake is named after the nearby gaddi village of Kareri, situated 9 km south east of the lake. The Kareri Lake is the third largest natural lake in the Dhauladhar region.
The lake is located in the North West Sector of the Dhauladhar range. The Dhauladhar region in Kangra, is a unique destination; 550 bird species, beautiful forests, home of Holy Highness the 14th Dalai Lama, diverse flora/fauna, historical and religious monuments, centre for Tibetan art and culture, 5000 Meter peaks, 14 Passes, and the home of the Gaddis, an indigenous tribe of Himachal Pradesh. Each day, gives you a different terrain, a different view and even different weather conditions!
